Refuse

One of the first steps to minimizing waste is to refuse it. Learn to say no to single use items.

Below are some ways that you can refuse single use items.

Plastic Straws

Don't use plastic straws when you have drinks. If you need a straw you can buy a reusable one instead, or buy paper straws. "More than half a billion plastic straws are used every day around the world."

Plastic Bags

Instead of using plastic bags, you can use tote bags.

Plastic Water Bottle

Instead of using plastic water bottles, you can use stainless steel reusable bottles."The average person uses 156 plastic bottles per year. 60 million plastic water bottles are thrown away each day in America."

Disposable Coffee Cups

Instead of using disposable coffee cups you can use a reusable coffee cup. "16 billion disposable coffee cups are used each year. These are coated with plastic to laminate the inside and use plastic lids."
